George V (1910-1936), George V, the British War Medal 1914-18, a trial impression of a pair of intended dies on a 10-sided bronze blank, bust left reverse St. George on horseback trampling the shield of the Central powers and a skull and crossbones, 40mm. Good very fine and a very rare trial

This unsigned piece was one of those prepared for submission of Royal approval in 1919. It differs in subtle ways from the final designs adopted for the medal
