James Milne Turner was born in the Parish of Cannongate, Edinburgh, and attested for the 42nd Highlanders at Perth on 10 January 1880, aged 16 years. He served in the campaign in Egypt in 1882, and in the Eastern Soudan in 1884-85, and was wounded at the battle of Kirbekan on 10 February 1885. His wounds caused him temporary incapacity resulting in his discharge at Netley Hospital on 16 November 1886. Sold with copy discharge papers.
