William Leyburn was born in St. Olave’s, Surrey on 5 February 1870 and enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 5 November 1885. Appointed a Sick Berth Attendant in 1888, he attained the rank of Chief Sick Berth Steward in 1907. He was discharged with a pension in 1910 but recalled for war service during 1914-19. Sold with copied service papers.
