The lot is sold with the following original documents: Buckingham Palace forwarding letter for D.F.C., Certificate for Path Finder Force Badge, issued 2 December 1944, and certificate for Coronation Medal (Flight Lieutenant, D.F.C., D.F.M.).

D.F.M., London Gazette, 26 June, 1942. ‘1050125 Sergeant James Higher, No. 115 Squadron. This wireless operator/air gunner has completed 34 sorties since July 1941, several of which have been against long distance targets in adverse weather. His skill in obtaining fixes and bearings has played a major part in the safe return of his aircraft under most trying conditions. Sergeant Higher is an airman of initiative and resource who has carried out his duties with the utmost efficiency.’

D.F.C., London Gazette, 16 February, 1945. ‘Flight Lieutenant James Highet, D.F.M. 128977), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No. 635 Squadron. Since the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal, Flight Lieutenant Highet has continued to maintain a high standard of skill, determination and devotion to duty. He has participated in many arduous operations with great courage. His untiring efforts and fine fighting spirit have set a magnificent example to all in his squadron.’
